A practical role for AI
AI can help security teams interpret signals, organize context and prioritize work. Its value depends on the quality of the data, the problem being solved and the people responsible for reviewing the output.
Start with a defined use case
Choose a task with a clear objective: summarizing an incident, grouping related alerts or helping analysts find relevant information. Define the data the tool can access and how its output will be checked before expanding its role.
Protect the data and the workflow
Review access permissions, integrations, logging and the handling of sensitive information. Treat model output as input to a decision, with appropriate validation for the consequence of that decision. High-impact actions should remain subject to clear human oversight.
Plan for misuse as well as benefit
Consider prompt injection, unreliable output, unintended disclosure and unauthorized tools. Include these scenarios in risk assessments and training, and document how an issue is reported and contained.
Measure the operational effect
Track whether the use case improves response quality or reduces unnecessary work. Review exceptions and feedback, then adjust the controls and the scope. Sustainable adoption comes from a governed operating model, not the tool alone.
